Who We Are?

The Really Wild Travel Company was officially founded in 2008 (many of the partners had been working together prior to that) to meet growing demand from charities for an operator that could run safe, professional challenge events that were sensibly priced. The company's first challenge event was a Kilimanjaro trek and expansion has been very rapid, as we now operate on three continents. Our challenge events are every bit as good, if not better, than those of other challenge event companies, but typically several hundred pounds cheaper. This allows the charities we work with to make much more money, which is what it's all about!

The reason that we're so much better value than our competitors is simple: we run the challenge events ourselves. Many companies will subcontract to a company where the challenge event takes place, and then add a hefty profit margin. We don't do that. Instead, we have formed a global partnership of local people who have lots of experience of adventure travel and we develop our itineraries ourselves. We believe that this means that we can charge much less than anyone else, and more of the money we charge goes directly into local economies, where it is much needed.

Below we've included a bit about ourselves:

Charles Milton - Senior Partner, UK

Charles

Charles fell in love with adventure travel and challenge events 8 years ago when he spent 2 months exploring the Amazon Rainforest of south Guyana. Ever since he's sought out new challenges and bumped into all the other senior partners along the way! After a BA in International Development and an MA in Globalization, Ethnicity and Culture from the University Of Sussex, Charles was determined to bring the partners together and allow others to experience once in a lifetime journeys, whilst raising huge sums of money for fantastic charities doing amazing work.

Innocentus Mauki - Senior Partner, Tanzania

Inno

Inno runs all of Really Wild's adventure challenges in Tanzania and has been a partner since the very beginning. He was born on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, where he has lived his whole life. He has climbed Kilimanjaro more times than most people have had hot dinners, and what he doesn't know about trekking in Tanzania probably isn't worth knowing.

Nima Lama – Senior Partner – Nepal

Nima Lama

After growing up in the beautiful pine-clad foothills of the mighty Himalaya, it is not surprising that Nima turned his hand to guiding groups of visitors around the 'The Roof of the World'. He is an accomplished trekker himself and also a skilled logistics manager who seems to know just about everyone in the Khumbu region! Nima is determined to help the children in the village where he was born and was instrumental in the recent reopening of the village school, which had been closed for several years. Well done Nima!

Julius Massawe - Junior Partner, Tanzania

Julius

Julius trained at Mweka wildlife college before joining The Really Wild Travel Company as a junior partner in 2009. Julius coordinates all the transport logistics in Tanzania and also runs safaris for people who choose to add one on to their challenge event. What Julius doesn't know about the domestic lives of elephants definitely isn't worth knowing!

Jamal Imerhane - Senior Partner, Morocco

Jamal

Jamal was born in Imlil, at the foot of Mount Toubkal and started his career in adventure travel as a mule driver in the mountains. After training at the National Centre for Guiding in the Draa Valley, Jamal started guiding trekkers around Morocco and has been doing so ever since. He's an expert on trekking in the High Atlas and the Sahara and he's not half bad at winter climbing either!

Loben Sherpa - Senior Partner, Darjeeling and Ladakh

Jamal

Loben is from Darjeeling in North India and has been climbing since he was old enough to cling onto a hand-hold. If we were to hold a competition to find the toughest Really Wild partner, Loben would probably win. He's summited Everest and several other major Himalayan peaks in his illustrious climbing and guiding career and he now spends a lot of his energy on community work in Darjeeling.
