What is a Challenge Event ?
Over the past few years, challenge events have become a hugely popular way to raise money for good causes. We like to think we've played a small part in this, particularly in making challenge events popular amongst students and young people.
Essentially, a challenge event is a winning combination of an often life-changing journey or experience with a successful fundraiser. The event can be a trek, a bike ride, a building project in a poor community - anything which takes the participant out of their comfort zone, whilst ensuring they get an enriching personal experience.
To take part in a challenge event people can of course choose to pay the costs themselves, but most choose instead to raise money for a particular charity. The charity asks the individual to raise a certain amount of money, and if the individual reaches the fundraising target, then the charity pays the challenge costs for that individual.
For example:
Louise Brown decides she really wants to raise money for her local hospice. The hospice is, in partnership with The Really Wild Travel Company, running the High Atlas Trek Challenge. Louise registers for the event with The Really Wild Travel Company and pays a deposit of £150 to secure her place. Her local hospice asks her to raise a minimum of £1800, which she does by organising a big raffle in her local town. The hospice then pays The Really Wild Travel Company £600 for Louise's place in the High Atlas Trek. The hospice have raised £1200 from Louise alone and have a group of 10 participants in total, making their income for one group £12,000. Louise and all the other participants get to take part in a fantastic journey through Morocco and to the summit of North Africa's highest peak!
So you see, challenge events are one of those brilliant win-win situations that work for everyone involved.
