The Lost City of the Inca, Machu Picchu, is one of the most beautiful and enigmatic sites of the ancient world. It was largely un-discovered by the outside world until 1911 when a Yale archeologist re-discovered the ancient city, one of the most prominent symbols of the Inca Empire along as one of the most important archeological sites in Latin America. The city is set upon a ridge over the Urubamba Valley deep within the jungle covered mountains North West of Cusco. It is the most popular tourist destination in Peru and trekking to it over the High Pass of Salkantay is a truly remarkable experience crossing a huge diversity of terrain and finishing up at one of the great wonders of the ancient world!
