Everest Base Camp
Mount Everest or Chomolungma (mother goddess) as the local Sherpa people call it, towers above the valleys of the Himalaya; a huge pyramid of snow, ice and rock. The climb to the summit of this mountain is one that only a handful of humans have achieved, but the amazing journey to base camp is one that anyone can achieve with a bit of effort! This is one of our favourite treks in the world, combining a truly inspiring challenge with some of the best mountain vistas in the world, and the famous warmth and hospitality of the Sherpa people who inhabit this part of the Himalaya.
We grade this as a tough challenge, and you'll need a good level of fitness and have done some practice hiking before departure. If you have had some experience of trekking at high-altitude you will find it an advantage, although it is not essential.
As well as trekking to base camp you'll get the opportunity to climb the 5545m Kala Pathar, which offers the superlative views of the Everest Massif.
